The project on organic agriculture development for the period 2020 - 2030, approved by the Government, originates from the practice, methods and general orientation of the Project on restructuring the agricultural sector towards increasing added value. and sustainable development, implementing national target programs and promoting the potential strengths of organic agriculture of regions and localities, contributing to positioning and enhancing the brand of Vietnamese agricultural products on the map. world agriculture; turning Vietnam into a country with a level of organic agricultural production on par with advanced countries in the world.
Accordingly, local management units, industry associations, producers and businesses will grasp the development perspectives, objectives, tasks and solutions of the State on the development of organic agriculture; deploy and develop a plan to perform the tasks of the Project in accordance with the functions of the unit and the actual conditions of each locality.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), in 2016 the area of organic farming across the country was more than 53,000 hectares, currently this area reaches nearly 238,000 hectares. The number of organic production enterprises is 97 enterprises, of which 60 are involved in exporting with a turnover of 335 million USD/year.
Vietnamese organic agricultural products are consumed domestically and have been exported to 180 countries around the world. In which, the US, Europe, China, Japan, Germany, UK, Korea, Russia, Singapore, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy... are the largest organic agricultural products consuming markets in the world.
Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that the output of organic products is very good, even the products are not enough to supply the market. Currently, the Ministry is implementing many measures to promote the project of organic agriculture development. The goal by 2025 is to have 1.5-2% of the agricultural land area meet organic standards, and by 2030, 2.5-3% of the organic area will be reached.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the management of organic production plays a very important role because it ensures that the products labeled as organic are really products of organic agriculture. Therefore, it is necessary to step up the training of management staff, inspect and supervise certification organizations and organic agricultural products, from the ministerial level to the localities. Besides, there is training for businesses, producers and traders of organic products; improve the quality of human resources for organic production, strengthen the training of specialists in organic agriculture.
